Mentoring for wellbeing at work

Abstract

In today’s rapidly evolving workplace, employee wellbeing has emerged as a key determinant of organizational performance and resilience. This article explores how mentoring—particularly developmental and transformational approaches—can significantly enhance wellbeing at work. Drawing on evidence-based practices and frameworks such as the EMCC Global competency model and Seligman’s PERMA wellbeing framework, the article outlines how mentoring supports emotional resilience, job satisfaction, and personal growth. It highlights the principles of non-judgmental dialogue, cognitive empathy, and reflective practice as foundational to effective mentoring relationships. Practical guidance is also offered for HR leaders aiming to embed mentoring into their organizational culture. By examining the interplay between mentoring and psychological wellbeing, the article positions mentoring not merely as a professional development tool, but as a strategic driver of engagement, inclusion, and organizational sustainability in the future of work.
