Abstract
A spinal epidural hematoma is
a rare clinical entity that affects one in every 1,000,000 patients
annually on average. The lesion can cause spinal cord compression or
cauda equina syndrome . We describe a clinical case of a 69-year-old man who,
two months after falling in the restroom, complained of pain and weakness in
both legs to the Neurosurgery Clinic of the General Hospital for Active
Treatment "Dobrich." A formation in the L2-L3 epidural space and an
L2-L3 fracture that was compressing the nerve roots were discovered by MRI. The
formation was determined to be a hematoma during the surgical procedure, which
was carried out under general anesthesia. The hematoma was aspirated, and the
spinal canal was decompressed. Due to a
complete laminectomy and possible instability, an L2-L3 stabilization using
pedicle screws was performed. Following surgery, no complications related to
the procedure were noted, and the patient was discharged the day following the
intervention. On the fifth day, the patient's symptoms subsided and he was
allowed to go home. The patient began to have left leg pain six months after
surgery. The patient was referred to orthopedics for additional treatment after
radiography revealed coxarthrosis in the left hip joint.
