OASIS Bangla: An analysis of screening tools for Bangladeshi adults
Abstract
Anxiety disorders are a major concern in Bangladesh, which results in a high cost on the mental and physical well-being of its inhabitants. It is impracticable to practice the use of multiple disorder-specific screening scales in healthcare settings that involve a high demand on resources. This study aimed at filling the gap by adapting and validating the Overall Anxiety Severity and Impairment Scale for Bangla-speaking adults, offering a quick, effective tool for anxiety assessment. This cross-sectional study was conducted at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bangladesh between October 2018 and February 2023 and involved 150 clinically diagnosed adults with anxiety disorders. OASIS Bangla could efficiently be used in clinical settings and hence would be particularly useful in supporting mental health professionals.
