Presentation Title:

Building resilience in the youth-led generation: Community influence, mental health perspectives, and the role of virtual reality

Abstract

In an era marked by rapid technological advancements and shifting social landscapes, understanding how young generations perceive mental health is crucial for fostering resilience. This presentation explores the intricate interplay between community influences, mental health perspectives, and the transformative potential of Virtual Reality (VR) in building resilience across the lifespan.

Young people today are shaped by diverse social media environments, peer interactions, and community norms, which collectively influence their attitudes toward mental health. While these factors can promote open discussions and reduce stigma, they can also contribute to increased anxiety and unrealistic expectations. Therefore, it is essential to analyze how communities—both online and offline—impact mental health perceptions and resilience strategies.

Virtual Reality offers innovative opportunities to address these challenges. By immersing individuals in controlled yet realistic environments, VR can serve as a powerful tool for therapy, enabling users to confront fears, practice coping strategies, and develop emotional intelligence in a safe space. This presentation will examine the advantages of VR, such as enhanced engagement, personalized experiences, and the ability to simulate real-world challenges.

However, it will also critically assess the potential disadvantages, including over-reliance on technology, accessibility issues, and the need for ethical considerations in its application.

Ultimately, this exploration aims to illuminate the vital role of community and technology in shaping mental health perspectives among youth, highlighting pathways to resilience that integrate the best of both worlds. By fostering an informed dialogue, we can equip the next generation with the tools they need to navigate mental health challenges effectively, ensuring their well-being in an increasingly complex world.
