Body percussion and body play: Confluence of knowledge and innovation for an inclusive education for mental well-being with a focus on ADHD
Abstract
This work explores the importance of body play and Body Percussion as innovative tools in inclusive education, with a focus on mental wellbeing for students, including those suffering from ADHD and hyperactivity (ADHD). Through an analysis of pedagogical theories, the text highlights how experiential learning, through movement and play, promotes integrated development of cognitive, social and emotional functions in children, allowing a synergy between the different dimensions. This integration is crucial to ensure an educational approach that not only addresses the academic needs, but also takes care of the students' psycho-emotional well-being. In particular, body play and body percussion encourage social interaction and collaboration, which are fundamental elements for the development of relational skills and for the construction of selfefficacy. Through these practices, children learn to recognize and regulate their emotions, improving their ability to cope with stress and tension.
Body percussion, proposed as a multisensory educational intervention, stimulates brain circuits related to perception and music production, activating brain areas involved in learning and memory. Research conducted on a sample of 75 primary and secondary school students, including pupils with ADHD and disability, revealed that these activities not only reduce problematic behaviors but also promote modulation of emotions. In conclusion, body play and body percussion not only enrich the educational landscape, but represent a concrete response to the challenges faced by students with ADHD. By integrating structured physical activities into school curricula, it is possible to promote an inclusive and stimulating educational environment where corporeality becomes a fundamental vehicle for learning and personal growth. This approach offers a holistic view of education, which values diversity and contributes to the overall well-being of the individual.
